Ibiza mainstays Jo Mills and promoter Charlie Chester are leaving the drunk-strewn White Isle for Singapore’s decidely more sober shores.
They are joining Attica, the posh (or pretentious, depending on who you talk to) bar-slash-club at the riverside nightlife area Clarke Quay.
“[Attica] is without doubt the most spectacular venue I’ve ever been involved in,” Resident Advisor.com quotes Chester as saying.
Attica has already made a name for itself in Singapore as the new place to be seen ahead of rivals like Zouk’s Velvet Underground and The Liquid Room.
Their music policy is usually housey, and it appears there will be more of the same from Jo Mills, who will be in charge of the dance floor.
Chester will work on bringing branded events, like Hed Kandi and Miss Moneypenny’s, to the club.
Chester and Mills helped make the Circo Loco parties at Ibiza’s DC10 some of the most legendary Monday morning mashups on the island.
Still, I’m not sure Attica is more spectacular than a disused airplane hangar somewhere off the coast of Spain packed with thousands of people going off to an impromptu Fatboy Slim set.

Dave Specialist out in Bangkok sends us this little postcard.
That’s the chrome-domed wonder Goldie on the left, Davey in the middle and Matt, who runs Q Bar in BKK, on the far right.
“We were smashed,” Dave says. Apparently so.

The vice tax on alcohol in Asia’s own Vice City has been upped by as much as five percent as of today.
The Bangkok Post estimates that this translates into a 30 to 40 percent increase in alcohol prices.
As Metroblogging Bangkok points out, the numbers don’t quite add up.
The increase in alcohol taxes comes as another blow to Bangkok’s already weakened nightlife industry, that is already suffering from 12am closing times.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think Singapore is aiming to have the most number of nightclubs per capita in the world.
Former Zouk marketing boss Andrew Ing and reigning mainstream club king Dennis Foo are teaming up to develop the gigantic 200,000 sq ft St James Power Station into a clubbing and entertainment hub.
The Straits Times (subscription only) says that Ing joined Foo’s company Power Concepts as chief operating officer last Friday after he was tempted by the “exciting” opportunity St James provided.
The former power station will house nine
“entertainment concepts” that will open at the end of next year.
This would be pretty amazing news already, given Singapore’s small population, but couple that with MOS Singapore’s impending opening (three times Zouk’s capacity), the proliferation of smaller clubs like Momo , Onyx and DXO recently, and of course the granddaddy of them all, Zouk Singapore, and you have an island that’s chockfull of dancefloor space.
Things are getting pretty crowded down there. How will everyone fit? Can’t wait to find out.

Drum ‘n’ bass and robots have always gone well together. Now, they are finally united in a handy, thumb-sized package from Mimoco, a company that makes USB flashdrives designed as cute little critters.
Each ‘Mimobot’ comes preloaded with a mix by DB, one of the many Brit expats in New York who liked the place enough to live there. He also started seminal D&B label and very cooly named East Village record store Breakbeat Science.
Customers in Asia can order through the Mimoco website.
Mimoco’s annoying flash site design prevented me from bringing you any further information about the toy/thumbdrive.

Hong Kong’s nightlife scene is usually described as a tepid affair. KTV lounges and the occasional feng tau (literally, shake head) club are the highlights, plus, of course, spectating at a bar brawl.
Witness the latter phenomenon firsthand at a vlog (video+blog) on Japanese breaks site Remixer Remix of co-founder and DJ Toshiyoshi NKJ to the Fragrant Harbour. It’s in Japanese but fights transcend language.
