Bedroom Jams
April 8 2003

Need a chance to shine but can’t seem to get there? Let Jam Session be your answer to your lack of performance. No it’s not Viagra, but a clean-cut Thursday night dedicated to giving bedroom jocks a taste of the main room.

Similar to ‘bring-your-own’ events, Jam Session at Grappa SoHo invites all bedroom jocks to turn up with their records for a spin on the house, or a laugh if you’re quite the jester. Despite the leanings of the attendees and organisers towards drum n bass, there are no restrictions on the genres so far.

Like most of Bionic’s ‘public service’ events, this event is cover-free. This means you can bring as many friends along, and for value-added glam, ladies get free flow of Bacardi mixers throughout the night. Spin for free, cover-free and drink for free, it doesn’t get better than this on a Thursday night. However, we would advise you to drop a demo at Bionic first, just to avoid unwanted surprises.

The location of this Thursday night gem is definitely not a usual suspect. Smack in the middle of Bukit Bintang, Grappa SoHo’s best kept secret had to be The Loft. It lacks the fancy furniture, lighting and deco. But its minuses are also its plusses. Almost pitch black if not for the candles, The Loft not only boasts hedonistically hidden corners but also raw, unfinished concrete walls and a cage in the centre of the room fencing in the console. It is equipped with an underground feel, without being literally subterranean.

Unfortunately, this secret has been a little too well kept. The nights so far have only seen a stream of bedroom jocks and the occasional veteran junglist looking for some practise and chill time.

Just a few weeks ago, Bionic’s multi-tasker, Low, gave us a little insight as to why the nights have been slow so far. It was simple – he said he had not started full-scale promotions yet. This was mainly due to minor adjustments that needed seeing to, like stronger air-conditioning, for example.

However, we didn’t have any complaints about the setting as the numbers are often comfortable enough to play and lounge in. And besides, smaller crowds can mean less rambunctious crowds – which definitely help to soothe some of the more nervous bedroom jocks.

So why are you still reading? Grab your records and headphones and get out to reverberate some eardrums!
