We
interview Sleeze Kor! from the Pan!k soundsystem, a crew that
have been putting on free parties in and around London for
ages. Read their history here.
> 1>>what does pan!k do? and why do you do it?
We hold free parties, free being short for FREEDOM. Sometimes
a small door charge is made, other times they are free to get
in or, of course outdoors in the countryside they're 100%
free.
> 2>>what crazy venues have you held parties
in?
We did an underground bunker in some woods in Wiltshire last
autumn, excellant venue, mad, bad spiders + spider egg cocoons
hanging from the ceiling!
> 3>>what are your run ins with the police
like?
Often very good natured, cos basically what we do isn't
against the law. Sometimes they come at us all aggressive and
try to act all tough, but a bit of gentle resistance and a
firm belief that what you do is right usually wins the day for
us. Of course, sometimes they are aordered from above to bust
us and nick out rig, then no amount of persuaision will do any
good as at the end of the day, the police are just robots,
blindly taking and executing the wishes of unseen others.
|
> 4>>does panik subscribe to any particular
political ideology? the free party scene in general
seems fairly left wing and anti capitalist... do you have
particular politcal stands on issues?
NO
> 5>>do u think dance music and culture should be
mixed up with politics? should dance music remain an
apolitical zone that is just concerned with having a good
time?
There are various political issues that do affect the free
party world and it's up to us all to do our bit as
individuals. It's not up to the rigs though, they have enough
on their plate laying on the parties.
> 6>>how do you find locations for your
upcoming parties?
They find us. Next question....
|
> 7>>what's your take on clubs like fabric? big
name djs? summer festivals?
It takes allsorts to make a world, so it's good that these
things exist for those who want them. Personally I think
they're crap and would have nothing to do with it all.
> 8>>who goes to your parties?
We can't list everyone by name here, but a proper cross
section of society from teachers to travellers, company
directors to armed robbers, no one gets turned away unless
they do something bad towards the party.
> 9>>how important are drugs to dance culture?
Obviously a lot of people at parties take drugs, but they're
not as central to the culture as the media would have you
think. Drugs are fun and can be very enlightening, but they
are no the answer to anything and should you start to believe
that they are, maybe it's time to stop for a while?
> 10>>how long do you plan to continue
putting on parties?
As long as possible.
