Junkie XL, the producer who resurrected Elvis in his track 'A Little Less Conversation', had his planned appearance at Centro's Essential NYE party at the Singapore Expo thwarted after thieves made off with his live gear.

The gear was taken from the same studio where super-super-star DJ Sasha recorded 'airdrawndagger' and was so customised by Junkie that he would be unable to re-fit them in time for his BBC performance and the Singapore party.

Krafty Kuts won the Best International DJ Award at the Australian Music Awards on Nov 13, beating Sasha, Paul van Dyk and Freq Nasty.

New Finger Lickin' signing, Stereo 8 from Bristol, have released a double A-side titled "Get Above Yourself/Groove Diggin'". It is touted as having 'mean basslines', 'crisp techy beats' and promises a 'serious breaks workout'. Nuff said.

One of the leaders of prog, Sasha himself, has responded to Muzik magazine's declaration earlier this year that progressive is dead.

"It's just fucking rubbish that progressive is to blame for the problems in UK clubland," Sasha told Kate Oliver from Studentz.co.nz.

"The whole club scene, the whole economy, everything, is in a bit of a rut at the moment, journalists are just looking to point the finger ... These magazines are skating on very thin ice because the more clubs that close down, the less advertisers they can have in their magazines," he continued.

Singapore superclub Zouk is rumoured to be preparing to open in KL next year. Although several KL sources have confirmed the plans, there has been no official response from Zouk yet.

More Zouk news, the club is gathering contributions from patrons for a publishing project. Zouk: The Book will be a one-off coffeetable volume that will fuse art, fashion, music and clubbing. Those interested in checking out the progress of the book or contributing can point to www.zoukbook.com

Zouk Out, the club's beach party that has been held for the past two years on Sentosa Island, Singapore, has been postponed til mid-next year due to scheduling problems.

This year's party was to be held at a "fresh, alternative" venue, but could not proceed because Zouk could not gain a dusk-to-dawn entertainment license in time.

The club's marketing manager, Tracy Phillips, also noted that since "external threats and pressures are less predictable", large outdoor parties should keep a lower profile.

"prog is dead, long live breaks!" - Muzik, this month. Could this be the beginning of breaks bandwagon jumping? Muzik has quoted ex-prog DJ James Zabiela as proclaiming prog to be "boring" and pronouncing it "dead". The former 4/4 afficionado apparently prefers the warped basslines of Meat Katie and W9Y these days. Hmm!

But seriously, folks... I think we are looking at the beginning of a huge breaks attack, what with Sasha's new LP chock-full of breaks, James Lavelle mixing the next GU, and A-list DJs everywhere, from Vath to Digweed succumbing to the funk, breakbeat could be the Next Big Thing. Good or bad? We'll have to see...

More grist for the rumor mill... it's been said that DJ Hyper AKA Guy Hatfield, Bedrock Star Bar resident, Kilowatt boss and mixer of the first Bedrock Breaks, has been approached to compile the next GU. Verrrrry interesting!

The Propellerheads will be coming out with a new album (finally) next year. The follow-up to their acclaimed 'decksanddrumsandrockandroll' will feature Debbie Harry, kd Lang, Rufus Wainwright and Joey Arias. Nice!

Danny Tenaglia's club, Vinyl, in Lower Manhattan, has been re-named arc. It will still host Tenaglia's Be Yourself Friday-night marathons, and the legendary Body and Soul with Danny Krivit, Francois K, Joe Clausell and friends.

However, it will feature a new soundsystem by none other than Steve Dash of Twilo's Phazon soundsystem fame (reputed to be so good Sasha ran to the centre of the dancefloor while Djing just to hear the Phazon at optimum quality).

June 22nd is the first opening party featuring Deep Dish with a ten-hour set. The second opening party will feature Danny v Danny, Howells and Tenaglia going head to head all nite long (and these guys can GO). It looks like NYC is finally getting over it's massive Twilo hangover.

Distinctive's next installment of breakbeat compilation Y4K will be mixed by the Dub Pistols. Expect it in October.
