SOTO
takes charge of Botchit and Scarper's third instalment of
Urban Funk Breaks with a direct n dirty dancefloor approach.
Comprised of SOnia Akow and TOby Edwards, this London-based
duo wear many hats in the UK breakbeat scene, including DJing,
producing, running a radio show and doing various
behind-the-scenes record label stuff.
This is a fair
selection of nu-skool tracks with a progressive bent and some
of the tunes here will definitely cause dancefloor mayhem.
Some stand-out
tracks are Atomic Hooligan's Club Shaker and Dangerous by T.
Power and Blade. FreQ Nasty of course never fails to
disappoint with his freaky, geeky, electro-breaky style in
Boomin' Back Atcha.
The mixing is abit
formulaic, though, and you get the impression that not alot of
effort was put into this mix. All too often they just fade the
last few bars of a track into the beginning of the next
track's vocal samples. Given their background, SOTO are
definitely capable of a better effort. A decent sampler for
the Botchit label.
